The exhibitions in the ‘Castle of Puppets’ are staged on the ground floor of the Monastery of San Paolo, looking out onto the ‘Secret Garden’.
The arrangement of the exhibition follows two itineraries: at the centre of each room, in a little theatre-like structure, are the marionettes, with the companies presented in chronological order; on the walls, on vertical shelves, are the puppets, arranged according to region and town.
The itinerary is enriched with playbills, posters, notices, photographs, stage equipment and scripts which create, insofar as possible, the dimension of the world that surrounds the puppet and marionette theatre.
The museum has a storeroom, in which the various collections that have been acquired over the course of the years are kept, and a study centre, where scholars can consult documents, a room for shows and an educational workshop.
